English Teacher at WBHS

What part of your job would most surprise people?
Probably how much I have learned from teaching my content and from my students and how much teachers truly care for students.

What advice would you give someone considering the same line of work as you?
Think it through carefully; it is so much harder than I ever expected.

Education:
BS in English from ECU

SJWC Member since?

Favorite thing about SJWC?
Getting to know other people and, when possible, participating in activities that benefit the less fortunate, particularly children.

Why did you join SJWC?
I joined to meet new people and to become more involved in my community.

What’s the most amazing thing about you that most people wouldn’t have guessed?
I don’t know about “amazing”, but people would probably not peg me for a heavy metal fan or guess that I love nothing better than a really loud concert. I don’t think I really look the part.

What makes your home special?
My family; without them, it would just be a house.

Your strongest trait?
I would say being forthright and loyal, as well as my sense of humor.

Favorite sport? Team?
Baseball; currently, the SDY Mudcats since Ethan plays on the team and Delane coaches. I am also a big ECU and UNC fan.

Book you’re currently reading or most recently read:
I recently re-read Toni Morrison’s The Bluest Eye for school, and I am starting Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead so that I can teach it next year. Ann Rule is my overall favorite writer.

Favorite travel destination?
Anywhere hot with white sand and crystal clear water.

Favorite snack food?
Anything chocolate

My strongest childhood ambition was:
To be in a rock band. I know. I really strayed about as far from that as humanly possible.

One food you’ll never catch me eating:
Liver
